FAQ

What is hypnotherapy?

The human mind is a complex and intricate system with many layers to it. Hypnotherapy allows us to work directly with the subconscious to effectively transform beliefs and patterns in order to help you in deep and lasting ways. Hypnotherapy utilizes an expanded state of consciousness, where you can connect with deep parts of your inner being. Tapping into this state can help you to gain profound insight, and use your own inner wisdom to connect with what you most need.

Traditional talk therapy can only go as far as our conscious mind can conceptualize and discuss issues, while using hypnosis allows for the work to go beyond the thinking mind, so it can be done more efficiently at a deeper level. Hypnotherapy allows for access to a deeper state of consciousness that is naturally occurring in all of us, and uses it to positively change mindsets, behaviors, and wellbeing. Working at this deep level, hypnotherapy can work with the emotional underlying structure that resides in your unconscious and is connected with your automatic responses. Using scientifically proven techniques, you can alter limiting beliefs and unhelpful patterns that have been hindering you, so that you can go to the next level of your growth and development.

How does hypnotherapy work?

The subconscious makes up 95% of the mind. Hypnotherapy allows you to utilize the power of your subconscious mind to change the way you experience the world around you. This allows for the alignment of multiple layers of consciousness which helps to transform unhelpful limiting beliefs, and to more easily and effortlessly access unprocessed emotions that are manifesting as issues in your life.

You have probably at some point had the experience of knowing at the conscious level something you need to shift or change, and yet, you have found yourself repeating the same unhelpful patterns. We maintain our problems at an unconscious level. Therefore, the most powerful and lasting changes we can make are working with this same level of consciousness.

Working at the structural level of the unconscious, you have the opportunity to integrate the emotional underlying causes and reasons for your symptoms that were previously unbeknownst to you. The amazing thing is - because hypnotherapy is a bottom-up approach, it works directly with the limbic system to process trauma that may not have a conscious memory or linguistics attached to it. Research is showing more and more the ways that trauma is stored in the body and unconscious systems, and this is a way that you can heal and integrate blockages without needing to consciously know what they are.

Can everyone be hypnotized?

Absolutely! Just as there are no two people exactly alike, not everyone goes into hypnosis in the same ways. A skilled hypnotherapist will test for the variances in susceptibility to the different hypnotic tools and techniques, then use what works best to serve your specific needs.

How effective is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is incredibly effective. In fact, it is known for working well even for issues where other therapies and interventions fall short, such as treating anxiety and depression, manage stress or pain, overcome fears and phobias, heal physical issues, cure sleep problems, quit smoking, and much more. Studies comparing long term recovery rates by hypnotherapy against psychoanalysis and CBT show hypnotherapy had much greater success and in a much shorter amount of time.

Hypnotherapy is promoted by the American Psychological Association as a beneficial therapy for “pain, anxiety, and mood disorders,” while also helping people change negative and harmful habits. Studies show how hypnotherapy works for pain management by studying scans that reveal that hypnosis switches off pain signals by lowering activity in the brain’s anterior cingulate cortex, linking sensory stimuli to emotional and behavioral responses. In fact, multiple studies suggest that for reducing pain during labor and childbirth, hypnotherapy is more effective than standard medical care.

What kind of things can we work on?

Hypnotherapy has been proven to be an effective tool for many issues and conditions, especially ones that other modalities have not been effective for.

Sessions can help you with anxiety, stress, overthinking, improving confidence, managing pain, changing habits, and integrating parts of yourself. This can range from things like getting help with improving strained relationships, integrating a plant medicine journey, stopping nail biting, quitting smoking, and sleeping better.

Anytime you have a response or reaction that is not your preference, you are acting from an automatic unconscious level. By working with the issues from the level that they exist, you have the opportunity to make incredibly deep and powerful lasting changes.

What is NLP?

NLP stands for Neuro-Linguistic Programing. Its a way to better understand how our neurological processes, the language we use, and our acquired behavioral patterns impact the results we get in our life. NLP uses foundational principles to allow us to observe and learn from human behaviors in order to create the change we want.

What is EFT?

EFT, otherwise known as 'Tapping', stands for Emotional Freedom Technique. This is a somatic processing therapy that involves tapping on specific energy points of the body while tuning into an emotion around a specific thought, memory, or event. Tapping allows you to powerfully process emotional distress to release blockages and integrate quickly.

EFT can be incredibly effective and deeply powerful! However, be aware that it is also commonly misused or done in ways that can be harmful. It is best to do Tapping in an individual setting with a professional, to avoid creating more emotional distress.
